Battling Alone

Battling mental health stuff is not easy and I think we try to seek comfort and support from friends and family so we don't have to battle it alone, or at least I know I have, but unless they have personally dealt with it or they have found ways to overcome, it's often met with a lack of understanding, empathy, compassion, and sometimes judgement, or harsh, unkind words.

As I was thinking over this, I was reminded of this story of Elijah. He had just performed an amazing miracle just a few scriptures before this passage. After this, he fled for his life and found himself worn out and ready to give up on life. He fell asleep and that's when the Angel came to him. The angel did not criticize him or question why he was acting the way he was acting. He showed up and comforted him and provided exactly what he needed: sleep and food. Twice, and enough for him to make the forty days and forty night journey.

Sometimes people just can't provide what we really need. Sometimes, the Lord is the only one who can give you the reprieve you so desperately search for.

Sometimes we have to go away into the wilderness, away from all the noise, get really real with God, and BE STILL.

BE STILL

That's probably the most difficult part. Turn off the phone, email, social media. Disconnect. Pour our hearts out to God. Not the sugar coated, or perfectly crafted prayer.

No, these need those loud, cries from the belly type of prayers where we hold nothing back.

God is big and he can handle it.

He is our Father and he is waiting for us to come to Him.

He may be asking you to just sit. Not read. Not do the devotional. Just BE STILL in Him.

Just listen.

And be open to what He is saying to you.

He may be saying to let go of control.

He may be saying to walk away from the addiction.

He may be saying to turn loose of the relationship.

He may be saying to move.

But He also may be saying it's time to seek professional help.

Whatever He is saying, my heart prays that you will be open and ready to receive it and move with it.

This battle is hard. Please do not fight it alone. Lean on Him for strength and guidance.

I love you guys!

1 Kings 19:1-9 NLT

[1] When Ahab got home, he told Jezebel everything Elijah had done, including the way he had killed all the prophets of Baal. [2] So Jezebel sent this message to Elijah: “May the gods strike me and even kill me if by this time tomorrow I have not killed you just as you killed them.”

[3] Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. He went to Beersheba, a town in Judah, and he left his servant there. [4] Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.”

[5] Then he lay down and slept under the broom tree. But as he was sleeping, an angel touched him and told him, “Get up and eat!” [6] He looked around and there beside his head was some bread baked on hot stones and a jar of water! So he ate and drank and lay down again.

[7] Then the angel of the Lord came again and touched him and said, “Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too much for you.”

[8] So he got up and ate and drank, and the food gave him enough strength to travel forty days and forty nights to Mount Sinai, the mountain of God. [9] There he came to a cave, where he spent the night.

But the Lord said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
